Our young concerns were: where to swim,
what card game to play, when to sleep,
who to eat with, and how long to laugh.
At reunions we can share laughs over
memories of our childhood simple romps
and the foolish pleasures that filled our lives
Or we can wander into adult traps of: who does what?
salaries, politics, religion, accomplishments,
affairs, health and children?
Childhood pleasures and explorations can be replaced
by opinions, positions and comparisons
behind carefully guarded smiles
Fortunately, lawn games and the lake allow us
to escape back to the days
of reckless doing and feeling
The reunion reminds us of our constant choice
between expansive romping
or contracting into our aged habits
